A species with a subtle lightness and slender stems, similar in habit to S. ochroleuca. I grew this last summer and found it completely enchanting...a resting place for elderly honeybees, and the seedheads were absolutely exquisite. A lovely variety of pincushion flower that forms a slowly spreading clump of soft greyish green leaves. Many upright wiry stems carry pretty lilac-blue flowers over a long period in summer. A hardy, occasionally short-lived perennial suited for dryer gardens in full sun, with averagely fertile soil. Will self-sow. Rocky, sandy or stony soils are perfect, but it is easy to please, just don't give it very rich soils or the stems will be floppy. Height in flower 60-80cm. 9cm pot.
