Salvia azurea - 9cm pot
The 'Azure Blue' Salvia which thrives in average soils and full sun. Thin, upright stems clothed in narrow leaves appear out of the ground in early summer. By late summer, clusters of gorgeous azure blue flowers begin to appear on the ends of the tall stems. I find it is a great plant to include in behind other perennials to add colour contrast to the brighter plants that flower now, such as Helenium. Also looks great with grasses in a natural setting. If you are concerned that the tall thin stems will flop then they can be cut back by half in early summer to encourage a shorter, sturdier form. A very hardy and fully winter dormant perennial, cut the stems back to ground level after flowering. Height of stems at flowering 1-1.5m depending on soil and climate. 9cm pot.
