(Toad lily). A fabulous and useful ground cover for shady areas, and one that is not too fussy about soil conditions - seems to cope with dry quite well, but a moisture-retentive soil will keep it looking happier. Forms a slowly expanding clump of rhizomes across the ground from which rise beautiful fresh green leaves edged in gold, and in autumn, upright branched stems are studded with unusual spotted flowers in tones of mauve pink. I love this plant for 'difficult' areas...places where you need something to cover ground and look good, or places where the soil or gradient of the land are difficult to actively garden. Foliage to around 30-40cm high, flower stems to around 60-70cm. 1 litre pot.
