Digitalis lanata - true species - 9cm pot
I grew these out in 2024 and they were absolutely fabulous. A hardy perennial forming clumps of quite narrow green leaves, each developing hairs as they age. In late spring/summer upright flower spikes appear. The individual flowers are unusual in that they are almost round in shape, caramel-coffee-coloured with netting like honeycomb inside, and a protruding white lip. Previously I've advised growing short-lived perennial types like these in light shade or morning sun, but these beauties were in full sun until very late afternoon, with minimal water and good drainage, and they were the best I've ever seen. These plants are seedlings of the ones int eh photographs and as you can see there are slight variations in colour. Flowering height 60-100cm x 30cm W. 9cm pot.
