Such a wonderful garden plant with a rather unwonderful name - mourning widow - this beauty forms lush clumps of fresh green foliage topped with saucer-shaped flowers in an unusual deep dusky plum-purple colour. Cut back the stems after flowering and the plant will freshen up again quickly - makes a lovely filler and foliage companion for other flowering perennials as well. Does well in light dappled shade and doesn't seem to be too fussy about soils although I would avoid anything too wet. Easy to grow, clumps up well and can be divided every few years. Size with flowers 50-60cm x 40-50cm wide. 1 litre pot.
