Eriogonum fasciculatum var. foliolosum - 9cm pot
This form is known as Leafy California buckwheat and hails from Southern California. It can be quite dense and hummock-like in shape in exposed coastal situations and is happiest in dry free-draining soils. No supplemental water is needed but apparently it will cope perfectly well with occasional summer rain. A low shrubby perennial with small, narrow grey-green leaves and an endless succession of gorgeous powder-puff-like white-creamy-pink flowerheads which age to rusty-brown as they dry. Older plants can become quite architectural in their appearance, with twisted gnarled woody stems. Ideal for poor stony or sandy soils, or hot dry clay areas, only needs watering to establish, but will grow in any type of soil really as long as it gets at least half a day of sun and doesn't sit in water in the winter. Pollinator friendly and flowers over a very long period from spring right through summer into autumn, the flowers changing colour and adding interest as they age. Mature height and width 60-80cm. 9cm pot.
