Plecostachyus serpyllifolia, cobweb bush - 1 litre pot
Commonly known as cobweb bush in its native South Africa, this tough and hardy low maintenance shrub makes an amazing silver statement plant in the garden! Forms a mound of closely-tangled stems clothed in tiny soft grey-green, silver edged leaves. Gorgeous little heads of tightly packed buds appear soft blush-pink before opening to tiny cream coloured flowers providing late autumn to winter interest.
I've found this plant is drought tolerant and does best in full sun and average soil with no extra watering, as this keeps the stems tightly packed together for the best silver mounding effect. In shadier, cooler areas the stems will be looser and can be used to create a different effect, draping themselves through woodier-based taller shrubs.
Pruning is best done after flowering or in early spring, when the whole plant can be trimmed with shears to maintain the shape. Height to between 40 and 60cm depending on sunlight, spread up to 1 metre. 1 litre pot.
