Eriogonum crocatum - 9cm pot
Very excited to be able to offer a few of this rarely available species here. I grew this years ago (before digital photos!) and was absolutely wowed by the flower colour and contrasting foliage, so I am thrilled to have it back in my collection. Commonly known as saffron buckwheat or conejo buckwheat this dry garden species forms a slightly sprawling subshrub with beautiful vivid, slightly furry silver foliage. From late spring well into summer short stems above the foliage carry clusters of vivid flowers that I would describe as citron yellow. As the flowers begin to age later in summer they change to shades of rusty orange and cinnamon. All ornamental buckwheats offer both nectar and pollen to various pollinators including bees and butterflies. Loves sun and good drainage, water once when planting and if very dry perhaps a week later and then no need to water again. Don't plant these deeply as they need the woody basal stems to keep their foliage up off the ground. 9cm pot.
