Kniphofia 'Tawny King' - 1.1 litre pot
Available for the first time is this variety which is rarely seen in NZ but deservedly popular overseas. A slightly larger garden-suitable form that forms clumps of reasonably tidy narrow leaves, but it's the flowers that are absolute stars. Strong bronzed stems with med-large sized heads that are a gorgeous apricot-orange in bud and then open to reveal buff-cream coloured flowers. The whole combination is fabulous. Try it paired with ornamental grasses or rising out of clouds of Achillea in similar tones, or with blue or violet flowers such as sea holly (Eryngium) or Salvia nemorosa varieties. Size at maturity approx 80-120cm flower height, clump to 60cm wide. Takes around 3 years to reach maturity. Best in a mostly sunny spot and reasonably good soil. 1.1 litre pot.
