Salvia 'Amena' - 1 litre pot
For flower-power and the most gorgeous blue you can't go past 'Amena'. Previously sold in NZ as 'Amore' this Salvia cacaliifolia x S. sagittata hybrid originated in the garden of the famous Salvia breeder Rolando Uria in Argentina and is marketed internationally as 'Amena'. I'm not sure why it was originally sold in garden centres here in NZ as 'Amore' but I have now re-labelled mine!
I highly recommend this variety for its long-flowering and stunning colour! A clump-forming plant which shoots from the base in early spring, with large arrow-shaped green leaves. From spring right through until frosty winter arrives, an endless succession of stunning bright blue flowers appear on long stems. Can be dead-headed from time to time and will shoot away again quickly producing more flowers. Grows in sun or part shade and is relatively tough, coping with many different conditions, although it can be a bit tender in cold areas so mulch the roots well over winter. Size at maturity 60-90cm tall and wide. 1 litre pot.
