Salvia involucrata 'Terry' - 1.1 litre pot
I don't have a bonafide name for this beauty but as it originally came from master plantsman Terry Hatch of Joy Plants I think of him every time it flowers - hence the name! A gorgeous summer-winter flowering hardy herbaceous perennial shrub, this makes an excellent feature plant for the back of the border or amongst other shrubby species. A variety with very dark green leaves tinted purple in the sun and dark stems as well. Clusters of striking deep pink flowers with furry tips appear throughout summer and into autumn, the colour changing depending on the light throughout the day. Long flowering and tough, coping well with anything from part shade to blazing hot sun. Flowering size 1m to 1.7m high depending on site x 80-100cm wide, This one forms a beautifully 'put-together' shrub for me, an upright form but busy and perfectly rounded in all the right places - well balanced! I trim mine back almost to ground level in spring once the frosts have passed and it comes away again from the base. 1.1 litre pot.
