Something a little bit special! I grew this from seed a couple of years ago and it flowered in the nursery, causing much admiration (by me). Cute rosettes of foliage, this particular strain has dark leaf stems and only a fine covering of hairs. The many vertical spikes hold their flowers out on individual stems (rather than clasping the main stem) which creates a stunning ethereal display, and the sunny yellow flowers have a boss of stamens in the centre which are the colour of smudged plums. In its native Crete this species is a cliff dweller so excellent drainage and low fertility is recommended. These flowered at around 40-50cm high for me.
