(Greater knapweed). A striking species when in flower, this one forms clumps of lobed green leaves, some of which become finely divided around the edges (resembling Scabiosa) and upright stems of ball-shaped buds which burst open to reveal rose-purple cornflowers 2-3 inches across, with long, fringed outer petals. A hardy perennial ideal for wildflower gardens or mixed borders and an excellent source of nectar for the bees and butterflies. Full sun and average soil, don’t over-feed. Size at flowering 70-90cm high x 30-40cm wide. Will self sow if happy. 9cm pot.
