Salvia argentea - 9cm pot
One of my favourite plants - easy to grow and extremely rewarding - very deserving of its Award of Garden Merit! A cold hardy short-lived perennial which forms a clump of highly attractive large, furry, silvery-grey leaves which pick up the light beautifully and make dew drops shimmer. The leaves alone always draw comment, but the candelabra-like flower stems are nothing short of magnificent, with masses of stunning pure white flowers in early summer. Drought tolerant and prefers a well-drained position in full sun. This can behave like a biennial and will often die once it flowers and sets seed, but it can live longer if the flower stem is cut back straight after flowering, and you will usually get two years of fabulous foliage to look at. Plant a few every year or two to enjoy. Flowering height 70-90cm, foliage clump around 40cm across. 9cm pot.
