(Cutleaf coneflower). A tall and vigorous plant, ideal for the back of a border, or wild garden where it can provide a glorious splash of colour, nectar for the insects, and nourishing seedheads for the goldfinches. Large, deeply cut, dark green leaves, and strong upright stems of beautiful bright lemon-yellow coneflowers, with drooping ray florets and yellow-green cones. This superior hybrid form, 'Herbstsonne', has wider petals than the species and does not (to my knowledge) set viable seed. Best in moisture-retentive soils, and dislikes extremely hot and dry sites. Mine flower from February right through until autumn. Flowering height at maturity 1.5-2m x 40-70cm wide clump. 1 litre pot.
