Montanoa bippinatifida, Mexican tree daisy, 12.5cm pot
Rarely available - these are big cutting-grown plants. This is an amazing plant ideal for a warm sheltered spot as it is tender to heavy frosts and dislikes very strong winds. Makes a very large, upright shrub, with long woody stems 8-10 foot high, and large dissected grey-green leaves. In early winter (about May here) it becomes slightly more sprawling as it produces masses of large pure-white daisies with yellow centres. An ideal nectar source and an absolute magnet for monarch butterflies on sunny winter days. In frost-free areas, the seedheads are a gorgeous lime-green and ideal for floral arrangements. Prune to shape in late spring. 12.5cm/1.1 litre pot.
