A seed strain I obtained as the tall form of this species, which was originally discovered in Mexico, and which has since graced my garden with a seemingly endless supply of bright scarlet flowers. The plants grow quite quickly and should flower and set seed before winter, although in my garden I find this species can be perennial if grown in a warm north facing spot with no frosts, and frequently flowers for much of the year in this situation. For me this beauty reaches 70-80cm tall in poor soils, and up to 1.5m in richer soils. It really enjoys full sun and good drainage. Will self-sow a little if left to its own devices, but watch young seedlings for slug and snail damage. 9cm pot.
