(Tropical, scarlet sage). A stunning fast growing plant, ideal for a large tub or out in the garden, it prefers a semi-shady spot with regular water in very hot climates. The flowers are glorious scarlet red and borne on long stems, with continuous new flowers creating a spectacular show that can go on for months on end from mid summer right into winter in warm areas. Plants are frost-tender perennials that will do well in warmer areas but best treated as an annual in very cold climates - take cuttings or save seed in autumn. This is reputed to be very close to the true species which can reach around 2 metres tall in its native Brazil. Flowering size in the garden 1.2-1.8m high and wide, but only around 60-90cm in a large tub. 9cm pot.
