A lower growing species from China, winter dormant in colder climates. Forms really nice clumps of divided grey-green foliage, similar in form to the red sage S. miltiorrhiza. Multiple spikes appear en masse from early summer carrying lavender-purple flowers with a streaked white throat, each held in an elegant, slightly fluted pose out from stem which is quite unique and very charming! Short lived perennial, hardy to light frost. Best grown in humus rich soil but must have good drainage, part shade. 40-50cm high x 30cm wide. 1 litre pot.
