Heliopsis 'Summer Nights'
(Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra). False Sunflower. Clumps of upright purple stems and dark-tinted foliage, which contrast perfectly with the golden yellow daisy-like flowers with darker centres. The 5-7cm flowers are held on sturdy stems and make excellent cutflowers, lasting well in a vase. Takes a couple of years to establish but blooms over a long period in summer. Isn't particularly fussy over soil conditions, but prefers a reasonably sunny spot. These hardy perennials are tough individuals that will withstand cold temperatures, retreating well underground during winter. Flowering size at maturity 80-120cm x 40-70cm wide. 9cm pot.
