A stunning form of cardoon, this one is a little more compact than the typical form, and has finely cut, very prickly leaves edged with silvery hairs, and deep violet blue flower heads, also adorned with prickly spines and hairs. A truly impressive architectural plant and the flowers are a magnet for all sorts of bees and ideal as cutflowers. Best planted in the back of the border, or centre of the garden bed away from paths. Mature size 1 to 1.2m x 70-90cm.
