A rare species native to a small area in Japan, this has become a beautiful elegant plant in my garden (which I failed to photograph, so thanks to Growild Nursery for the photo, and the original seed). Lovely clumps of very fine ferny foliage, mostly green but occasionally purplish tints appear in times of heat or cold. Upright stems bear lovely blue flowers with a hint of lilac from late spring into summer. With the extra moisture last summer they continued to send up new stems right through until late summer here. Plants should reach around 40-70cm when in flower and will do best in a moisture-retentive but free-draining compost-enriched soil in a partly shaded position. 9cm pot.
