An outstanding plant for the perennial garden, or anywhere in fact that you'd like a lot of colour for minimal effort. Slender vervain does slowly spread by underground runners, but I find it is easily controllable and particularly in drier, poorer soils (I wouldn't recommend planting it in rich friable soil). I love using it to create vibrant colour contrasts, or where its slender stems of vivid purple flowers can pop up in amongst mounds of green or grey foliage. Flowering height is around 30-60cm for me, spread...mine has spread to around 60-70cm in the past two years. A sunny spot is ideal for this beauty. 9cm pot, plants just emerging from their winter dormancy.
