Salvia patens 'Guanajuato' - 1 litre pot
The highly prized Giant form of gentian sage, this beauty would have to be one of my most useful summer sages, flowering off and on from late spring right through until autumn. Triangular green leaves, the lower ones usually bearing dark plum markings, and strong, upright spikes carrying extra large, bright gentian-blue flowers. The plant grows from a clump of (non-invasive) tubers under the ground, similar to a Dahlia but not as big. Flowering occurs at any time from early summer through to autumn, and will repeat flower if dead-headed occasionally. Frost tender above ground but deciduous and will re-shoot from the tuber in spring once the soil warms up, and will survive better if mulched with compost or similar. Flowering size 70-100cm tall x 30-40cm wide. Full sun and good soil is best. Cutting-grown plants as 'Guanajuato' rarely comes true from seed. 1 litre pot.
