Salvia patens 'Blue Dove' - 1 litre pot
A new release of this stunning variety, grown and selected by me at Seaflowers Nursery, this beauty stood out from the beginning with its upright stature. When it opened large flowers of the most gorgeous sky blue with a unique white dove-shaped marking in the throat I realised it was very special. So there are just a few plants to share in this first release, with more for sale later on in the year. Salvia patens is a very useful summer sage, flowering off and on from late spring right through until autumn. The plant grows from a clump of (non-invasive) tubers under the ground, similar to a Dahlia but not as big. Flowering occurs at any time from early summer through to autumn, and will repeat flower if dead-headed occasionally. Frost tender above ground but deciduous, going completely dormant in winter, and will re-shoot from the tuber in spring once the soil warms up. Flowering size 70-100cm tall x 30-40cm wide. Full sun and good soil with good drainage is best, add a layer of compost to mulch it in spring and again in autumn. 1 litre pot.
